Nature's Peace

"Walk away quietly in any direction and taste the freedom of the mountaineer.

Camp out among the grasses and gentians of glacial meadows,

in craggy garden nooks full of nature's darlings.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings,

Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.

The winds will blow their own freshness into you and the storms their energy,

while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

As age comes on, one source of enjoyment after another is closed,

but nature's sources never fail."

~John Muir

  7. Seriously, the man was a poet. I've always wondered if it was the mountains that made him that way... or if he was a born poet.

  11. savoring this as i walk out the door, leashes in hand, beasts attached, frothing at the mouth in excitement for their afternoon jaunt.
you silly girl {island under the sea}....why wouldn't you think i'd like it? according to my kindle i'm only 13% "into" it, but so far it's that yummy historical fiction i crave this time of year. i'm a sucker for STORYTELLING. man, can this woman tell a story. i'm totally smitten. i can smell the island spices and the labored sweat. thank you so much for the recommendation.
    love,

  15. Reading a wonderful book called "Kindred and Relatd Spirits"...it's about the very special relationship that John Muir had with Jeanne C. Carr. who was an amateur botanist. It is a collection of letters written to each other and it is truly inspirational!
